Luther and the Jews
Sundays in January 2025; January 5, 12, 19 and 26 at 1:00 PM Eastern
How can we respond positively and practically to increasing antisemitism today? We can learn much from the life and teaching of Martin Luther on the Jews and Judaism. Luther was the great catalyst of the Protestant Reformation, pioneering in his works a new understanding of Scripture and teaching the great truths of the Good News of the Messiah, including justification by faith and the meaning of grace. But he also had a dark side which would do great damage to Jewish-Christian relations and would have a disastrous legacy in the Holocaust. Join us to learn more about this giant figure, his life, his teaching, his understanding of the Jewish people and Judaism, and how we can respond positively to his legacy today by 'putting right the lies.'
Instructor: Dr. Richard Harvey
Richard Harvey became a Jewish disciple of Yeshua in 1974 in London, UK. He pioneered the London Messianic Congregation, where he met his wife Monica, also a Jewish follower of Yeshua. They have two children and three grandchildren. Richard taught Hebrew Bible and Jewish Studies in the UK, and earned his PhD under Rabbi Professor Dan Cohn-Sherbok. His dissertation, "Mapping Messianic Jewish Theology: A Constructive Approach," explores how Messianic Jews understand God, Torah and Israel today.
